Closing line value

Closing line value compares your number to the close. Positive means you beat it. It's not measured against the opener, and it doesn't mean the bet won.

Pick Spread, Total, or Price, then type your number and the closing number. The page doesn't look up the close.

Use the same side for both line numbers. A favorite at -3 against a close of -6.5 is already the same side, so don't flip either one.

Closing line value calculator filled with spread +7 against a close of +3, showing a beat of 4.0 points.
Filled example: spread +7 against a close of +3.

Line CLV

Spread: your line minus the close.

Total, over: your total minus the close.

Total, under: the close minus your total.

The row is Line CLV, one decimal, then "pts".

Spread

You +7, close +3. Line CLV +4.0 pts. "You beat the close."

You -3, close -6.5. Line CLV +3.5 pts. "You beat the close."

You -3, close -3. Line CLV 0.0 pts. "Same number as the close. That is not a beat."

Total

Under 45, close 48. Line CLV +3.0 pts. "You beat the close."

Over 45, close 48. Line CLV -3.0 pts. "The close beat your number."

Over 47.5, close 46. Line CLV +1.5 pts. "You beat the close."

Price CLV

Price CLV is the close's implied probability minus your price's, in points. It doesn't take the vig out of the close first, and it's not the spread points the tracker stores on a bet.

The row is Price CLV, two decimals, then "pts". The hint adds: "Price CLV is probability points, not the spread points stored on a bet."

You +150, close +130. Your price implies 40.00%. The close implies 43.48%. Price CLV +3.48 pts. "You beat the close."

Limits

Beating the close is a long-run signal, not the result of that ticket. Both numbers have to be the same market and side. A price gap isn't a point gap. After you join, the tracker can store line CLV on bets it can match. This page never looks anything up.

FAQ

What does a positive number mean?

You beat the close. It doesn't mean the bet won.

Do I enter both numbers?

Yes. The page doesn't look up a close.

Why did the over and the under get opposite signs?

They're opposite bets. Under 45 against a close of 48 is +3.0. Over 45 against the same close is -3.0.

Is price CLV the same as the tracker's CLV?

No. Price CLV is probability points between two American prices. The tracker stores line points on a spread or a total.

Does +150 versus +130 use a devigged close?

No. It's 43.48% minus 40.00%, which is +3.48 points. The vig stays in both prices.
